Two people were shot dead and several injured after a violent clash between two groups in a village on the outskirts of Patna on Sunday, police said.
Violence in Patna district's Jethuli village over a parking dispute escalated into arson with a mob setting fire to several buildings, including the village chief's office, on Sunday. The chaos continued on Monday when cars parked near the gas gap were also set on fire, an incinerator was vandalized and a pressure cylinder kept in the incinerator was thrown into the Ganga river.
While two people died, at least five were injured in the incident and were sent to Patna Medical College and Hospital and Nalanda Medical College and Hospital. There is a heavy police presence in the area and police have arrested seven people, including the village chief, in connection with the violence.
“The fight between the two groups escalated into violence with firing by one group. Five people were injured. We have information on two deaths. Seven accused, including the village chief, arrested. The police have to camp in Jethuli until the situation normalizes. The situation is stabilising,” said Syed Imran Masood, Inspector of Police, City.
